Just picked up some speakers. 4ohms each. They want a lot of juice. Long Term Maximum Power (IEC 265-5): 200 W Continuous; 800 W Peak Recommended Amplifier Power: 150 W - 1000 W (rating into 4 ohm load) How do these look on paper? Price is more than right. I could even grab a pair and run them as bridged Mono blocks for almost no money. Anyone heard them? www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=605030

Are these for wow factor? Filling the holes?
I doubt the specs on that amp... For $99 though you could try it out.
Another option would be the ART SLA-2, or the little passive Carvin. But they are in the $350 range. You could look for a used Hafler P3000 at $200.

Bangers. The speakers are 4ohms each though. Most amps don't seem to handle a stereo 2 ohm load or 4ohm bridged. Neither the Art of Hafler do. That's why these Monoprice amps are tempting.

Don't laugh - Old Peavey CS-800, maybe modded with lower noise parts in the front end. (Not that they're excessively noisy to begin with) Essentially the old Flame Linear 700 circuit, modded with protection circuitry to remove the flame, and with slightly lower power (IIRC it's slightly lower rail voltage). Factory rated at 2 ohms, plenty of power, built like a tank, and these days you can find 'em cheap 'cause they weigh a ton. I'd DEFINITELY take it over either an ART or a Carvin.

I had an ART SLA-1 (actually it is sitting a shelf here still) and the fan noise is a real drag.

Doesn't do the ratings that I need. I ordered a couple of those Monoprice amps to check out. Got a pair for under $200 and they'll do 500 watts per side. I figured for that low of a price, it won't hurt too much if they suck.

If I didn't have more than 1, I would think it's broken. Barely drives my speakers and sending any decent signal level into the units clips them out. No idea what's up with these. I was worried that it might be the speakers or cables having some issues, but I brought my Emotiva down, and everything works great. Total junk, avoid at all costs. Fan sounds like a jet engine too.
