I've used em. They are in the Silver Bullet, and I've had them in my API press for awhile. I don't think they will cause you any issues, but every receiver seems to be implemented differently. Sounds like a 2520, although a bit different.
There's a guy in the bay area with a 1608 who's in process of replacing all the API 2520's in his console. He keeps blowing them, and the Rogue 5's don't blow and sound great.
Plus...they're don't cost a lot. Why not just buy one or two and try em out?

Got any pics of the bottom? Plenty of clearance in the CAPI pres?

If you want to talk about "hiding" try checking out the API 2520 for components. They are epoxied into a box. That's why they overheat and fail. As far as the pics, I think Brad just likes the name in the pic. Oh yeah, and the spaceman.... :-)

Not much thru-hole components. I guess most of it is surface-mount components. Probably not much to see...

Interesting - $39. I assume these are not a kit and come built? Great deal (assuming the sound is there).

Cool. Jesse - I assume you're looking at these for the f553's? You got me thinking about a pair of these now lol

Hi guys, Thanks for the interest. Yeah, all the parts are on one side...the same side as the pins. The overall height is about 0.63" tall which is a lower profile than other DOAs. So height will never be an issue especially in 500 series gear. As long as there are either no parts directly underneath the op amp itself, or only low profile parts like resistors and ceramic caps, then it will fit just fine. I was even able to load them into some API 1608 channels and some 550A EQ's without issue. And API likes to put a bunch of parts right underneath those op amps including silver mica caps. I believe I have some users using them in VP26 and VP28's without issue and with favorable sonic results. I looked at some of the pics on CAPI-gear.com and I think the Rogue Five will fit no problem in Jeff's stuff since he keeps the DOA footprint clear. As for long-term reliablity, I've been using a pair in the CAPI 2-ACA board I installed into the mix bus of my D&R Vision console for about three years now. That console tends to run a little warm with all the mods I've done, but I've had no issues, and most importantly sounds great. As to why I don't have any pics up of the component side... like @smallbutfine said it's mostly SMT parts and isn't really that interesting to look at. I'd rather you all see that handsome little space guy. When my friend and I loaded some into a pair of channels + 550A's in his 1608 what we noticed is that some low-mid haze cleared up. I realize this stuff is so subjective, but we felt like there was a bit more extension on the top and bottom with the Rogue Five and we felt like we could hear into the mix better (more depth with the soundfield). They still had the punch, but they were less blurry for lack of a better word. It was really interesting. Anyway, these are the same op amps I use in the "A" MOJO Amp of the Silver Bullet. I made a bunch so I figured why not allow others to use them in their DIY projects or other gear for an affordable price. Oh, and yes, these are fully assembled ready to use. No assembly required. I'm happy to answer whatever other questions you guys may have. thanks, Brad
