Interesting.I felt like it was just adding some distortion on some of the tracks. It did fatten things too, but I felt it was at the cost of boosting some frequencies in an unpleasing way. I'd love to hear it on a sol vocal, and then with the vocal in a track. I know Audiosacpe does really good work.

Not sure how I feel about it. Good on some stuff, not so good on others. Like anything else, having it in your hands is the only way to tell. Look forward to it's release into the wild....

Does anyone know if it has a "mix" or "blend" onboard? If there was a comp that could benefit from that, this one might be the one.....

But I think everyone should have a blend box for compressors like this. This is essentially like the Chandler, just much cheaper in price. I know for me what I loved about the Chandler Zener was just using it as a harmonic box. I don't know why, but I'm not particularly found of the compression because of the amount of harmonic distortion this box puts on everything, but using it for that, like slamming the input and using it in parallel on the drum buss, I love the sound, wakes any drum kit up and gets it moving, also way less eq needed for the drums with one of these ran in parallel. I use the UAD version for this all the time and it's extremely good, but the actual hardware does have a bit more dynamic movement than the plugin version if that makes sense. Just like you said, this would be one you'd have to have in your shop for a while to really get and figure out if it's for you.

In the first video, I thought it sounded really nice on the acoustic guitar track. And I like what the turbo mode did for electric guitar in the second video. But I'm a little confused. In the final product, the turbo switch is labeled s-c (side chain). Is that switch performing the same function? I don't know enough about the original version of this compressor and the DIY turbo mod.

Not really sure I'd use a zener on a 2 bus or acoustic guitar...

There are no D-Comp videos, you're looking at the Buss Compressor. Turbo switched from a summed mono s/c to a true stereo s/c on the GSSL, when he removed the GSSL name from the front he also changed the turbo switch name to just s/c, same function.

I thought the s/c switch was essentially a high pass filter for the comp? Unless I’m misunderstanding something here.

Doesn't his comp operate in true stereo all the time? The S/C is simply that, removing the selected freq from the S/C.

Been eye balling this comp for a while, and thinking that if I get one I’d grab an outboard parallel blender, I think TK Audio has a 500 series one. Idk, maybe It’s not to late in production for it to be modded with a wet/dry knob?

I’ve been looking for a wet/dry box and found that Serpent and TK make them (actually TK has 2) my problem is the awkward front patching and that they run $400-$500 plus the cost of slot(s) I did see that Avenson used to make a 1/2 rack one but it’s discontuned and was $600 - I thought of getting the little Radial 2:1 mixer and mulling through my patchbay as those are XLR and run $130. anyone know of any other solutions? This is what everyone needs, including me! I don't know why I haven't spent the little money this cost's to build and get it done. Serpent Send N Blend

That's the best parallel box you can get. Collective cases make a front panel and case for it. 150 bucks. Total build is about 350ish

Serpent Send N BlendAwesome - I've only seen the Serpent 500 series Send N Blend - didn't know it was offered as a multichannel kit - Thanks for the head's up!!!!! Get it now. Serpent is done with diy and once current stock is gone. It's not coming back. Bom is missing for the SnB. I emailed Mike to ask for the documents

The research I did into it led me to threads with very unhappy people. So I bailed. Let me know if you have success!

Why buy a send and blend box when you could just get a little mixer to do the job and so much more?

Yeah, but for 9 out of 10 guys a simple little mixer would solve so many problems! I always said Mackie shouldn’t have called the 1202 a mixer instead the ultimate little problem solver!

I hate those things. The pots never last. They sound horrifically bad. I see no use for them for someone going for a high end sound.

Why buy a send and blend box when you could just get a little mixer to do the job and so much more? Well what I'd say is that when you're doing a quality/cost ratio this box would really jump out of the pack. It's designed specifically to do this and they are the best ones out there. I am going to go on and get my board to be able to parallel the PRR-176.

I'm underwhelmed by the compressor in these examples.
