Wow. I preordered one today. Based on my experience with Eric both from a customer support and product standpoint (I have the Weight Tank Comp already) this will be a wonderful piece. I know there are a few Locomotive/Weight Tank users on here, just wanted to post in case there are new folks who aren't aware. Weight Tank WT-72 Transformers on input and output, two EF86 tubes, and a DI? Internal power supply? For $599 preorder? Hard to beat.

I just got a chance to listen to the clips. Wow. I can really hear the personality of the pre shining thru. THIS PRE SOUNDS FANTASTIC. Just finished ordering a pair from Eric. What a friendly and accommodating guy. I had a special need, and he totally took care of me!! THANKS ERIC!! The pre-order process was great, and Eric is so helpful, and the whole line sounds so great. My experience with the WT product line so far has been stellar and a complete opposite experience from what some pre-order situations seem to end up being. Look forward to the WT72's in Jan of next year! Woohooo!! Someday........I will have the whole LocoMotive line.

Kid out grew them fast, who needs toys when over 150 go buy everyday right outside your window? Sort of miss them. Only thing better than having this parked in your front yard ( you can see our old building in the right hand corner 7th floor last 3 windows on the right), was when Barnum and Bailey would park the circus train and walk the elephants up the street! imgur.com/gallery/RAWb3f1

I know it says American made Transformers, but does anyone know which company? In the original V72's/ V76s' the transformers and plate chokes were what made a tremendous part of the sound. I figured someone someday would finally recreate these preamps at a logical price point. Mercury did it, but they are crazy expensive. Really interested to know if these are custom built transformers and all, I just remember when it came to these pre's those transformers were vital in getting that sweet and lush tone.

One thing that could be done with these is, while understanding to get to a price point like this some compromises have to be made, the transformers could be swapped to Sowters recreation. I've heard the originals with the drop in Sowters for the V72 and it was identical. The plate choke could stay the same, but just for future reference Sowter does make a drop in for a V72 circuit. Again I'm only saying this because I know that in recreations of classics like this, the transformers are usually the starting place to go cheaper in order to get that price point down. Other than that the circuit is pretty simple and a simple design referencing the originals schematic is going to yield a great tone.

I think they like using Cinemag and Edcor transformers. I will have to check my weight tank but i thought the 14b used those.

All I can say is that in my experience with the company - I don't care what transformers they use. Eric has impeccable taste, ad the units I have are spectacular. I'm happy to trust his expertise.

Hi! We were able to partner with an American winder (Not Cinemag on this one) to create a custom mu-metal shielded input transformer designed and wound to our required specifications. The output is indeed an Edcor and performs great in this particular circuit... the combination of the input and output as well as the actual tube circuit put this unit (WT-72) right in the sonic pocket of the original two 34 dB gain examples we have here.
Now remember, when addressing the tone and performance of a "V72": today we have original vintage units that are all across the board in terms of performance and sonic subtleties because of how and which mods were implemented to add gain to the original 34 dB units. So, when changing gain, the performance also changes. The WT-72 is our take on the V72 and I'm really happy to say that it comes perrrrrty close to the original unit in tone and overall vibe.
Cheers!!
