Has anyone here used the Aurora Audio GT500? Never heard much about it. Geoff was adamant he would never do a 500 series. Guess that’s changed.

i never bought into the 500 series HYPE. first of all gear manufacturers/ designers had to go back, REDESIGN to fit into a limited power supply, 16v, even if they found a way around it, it was trial and error. it looks very convenient and im all for smaller/compact racks, but i think API was a crappy format. should of had more power where designers were struggling to design or fit things in. maybe something of size 4U (instead of 3u) like a SSL RACK would of worked better which seems more practical imo.

I think I understand what you mean John The 500 series is a declining market but so is the rack series, it is just a matter of coming out with an interesting and exciting product to change this. I have designed about 10 pieces for 500 series, preamps, comps, eq's etc.. they are just sitting there, the cool thing is that most of them have never been done in a 500 series format or not the same as in rackmount version. I will probably released them once we are up to date with deliveries to see if there is any interest Maybe selling 500 kits would be a cool idea? (SoundSkulptor, Hairball, CAPI etc...) And less delivery, manufacturing hassle.

For my little one room operation space is a big factor too.
That said, I always like full size 19” gear better.

5oo is necessary for me to buy one channel of preamp or EQ, etc, at a time. I can't easily, feasibly, drop $2,500 on a four channel preamp. It's a little easier for me to bite it off in smaller chunks.
Space also is a big one here too, I'm in a pretty tight spot location wise.

The Wild West of power supplies is a bit of a barrier from the start. One day will jump in and have Billy Pratt build me a CAPI rack and go from there. (Fine with making cables but haven't gone much past that.)

That's the key to the SawStop. A lot safer (hope so, at least) than the Delta Unisaw I had for 14 years. That thing was a beast of which to be respectful for sure. Going to have to break out the Hakko 936 and get a CAPI chassis going. Damnit.

Made some amazing stuff with the Unisaw for sure.
